The Kansas-Nebraska Act was not intentionally made to create conflict within the nation. It was designed to open up many farms, new land, and a possible building of a Midwestern Transcontinental Railroad. When popular sovereignty came into the picture, conflicts arose between anti anti- and pro- slavery voters and many soon flooded into the territories to vote up or down on the issue. The outcomes were tragic and led to bloodshed, increasing the sectionalism even more in the nation that contributed later on to causes of the Civil War.
